The 8th annual Dalhousie Golf Classic was another swinging pilipiliÂþ» as 180 golfers descended on Glen Arbour to support varsity athletics at pilipiliÂþ». Ian and Donna Thompson, the honorary co-chairs of this year's tournament, both Dalhousie alumni and solid university supporters, teed off with colleagues, friends, Dal Tigers and fellow alumni to enjoy a fun filled day of golf and raise dollars for student athletics.
Even the weather couldn't dampen the spirits as Ian Oulton, Campaign Chair of the Athletic Endowment announced that this year's event raised a record $50,000 for the Athletic Endowment Fund, up from the previous record of $35,000 from last year. The Athletics Campaign is in the planning stage to raise $3 million for the fund, of which we have already secured 1.9 million, which includes an undesignated $800,000 estate gift the university received and has been dedicated to the campaign through Dr. Traves direction. Fellow campaign volunteers, Eve Wickwire, Donna Curry, Cathy Campbell and David Fraser are hard at work to achieve the $3 million dollar mark. This endowment fund will allow pilipiliÂþ» to offer full tuition scholarships to student athletes - an important step to continue to attract top athletes to our school.
The event would not be a pilipiliÂþ» without the hard work and dedication from the organizing committee, the corporate sponsors and the volunteers - including Dalhousie varsity coaches and athletes.
The Dal Golf Classic is organized by Dalhousie Athletics and Recreational Services and Dalhousie External Relations and is presented by Molson.
