The Faculty of Management is raising $52.2 million toward the $750 million goal for Bringing Worlds Together: Dalhousie’s campaign for transformational change.Ěý
Our target is ambitious, and so are our plans. We want to diversify the Dalhousie community and Canada’s boardrooms and executive offices. We want to attract more outstanding researchers and industry experts to solve management issues. We want to offer professionals new ways to upgrade their skills. And we want to foster a global mindset among our graduates so that they succeed.
Through your support of Bringing Worlds Together, we will grow, nurture, and support a more diverse and inclusive community that inspires social and economic innovation and action.Ěý
Here’s how we will do it:
Inspiring future-ready leaders Â
Dalhousie’s Faculty of Management is equipping students with knowledge, skills, and resilience so they can lead in a rapidly changing world. Support through the Bringing Worlds Together campaign will help us pave the way for their pilipiliÂţ».
For example, Max Horsley, a recent Faculty of Management graduate, benefitted from the Faculty’s Doing Business in Emerging Markets course. Funded by , it offers opportunities for students to understand the challenges Canadian businesses face when expanding into emerging markets. “We got to take the business theory we studied and apply it [on a real-world project], which is where the real learning happens," Horsley says. "Navigating this project and experiencing another culture’s business practices gave me valuable skills and strategies that I can use for expanding a business globally.”
The Promise Scholars program is one way that Bringing Worlds Together is helping us create paths for students to excel, specifically African Nova Scotian and Mi’kmaq students. To date, the program has supported eight graduate students in the MBA, Masters Public Administration, and Master of Information programs and 11 undergraduate students in the Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Management programs. It has also awarded $253,000 in financial aid. Through your gift to Bringing Worlds Together, we are building on these achievements with 150 new renewable scholarships with wraparound supports such as career advice and mentorship, so our students go on to diversify boardrooms, corporate leadership, and drive social and economic change. Additionally, we have established an Undergraduate Student Resource Centre, offering all students convenient access to academic and career assistance to enhance their pilipiliÂţ» and create a more inclusive future.
Bringing Worlds Together will also allow us to launch several new initiatives to foster global mindsets and international business opportunities. The Global Experience Hub will offer students international learning, research, and work-term experiences, along with intensive summer education programs for visiting students, international research collaborations, and an exchange program for faculty members. We will also introduce Innovation Unbound—a suite of courses that will connect students with entrepreneurs around the world, support entrepreneurial co-op work terms, and link students with aspiring entrepreneurs from other disciplines.Ěý
Engaging in high-impact research
The Faculty of Management is driving innovative solutions to tackle complex challenges facing organizations worldwide. With campaign support, we aim to expand this impact, positioning Dalhousie as a global hub for research that creates lasting change.
New funding will enable the creation of teaching and research chairs dedicated to solving critical management issues. These roles will give our students a competitive edge, attract top graduate talent, and fuel new economic activity across the region. Funding will also allow us to create applied research centres—research and activity-based initiatives that bring faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and doctoral students together to collaborate on issue-based research. By working together, our researchers will make major strides in everything from transforming our health-care systems to information literacy, strengthening our organizations and society.Ěý
Dr. Paola Gonzalez’s work is one example of what will be possible through support of Bringing Worlds Together. An associate professor and researcher in the Faculty of Management, Dr. Gonzalez is collaborating with Digital Nova Scotia to explore how increased diversity and inclusion can drive innovation and economic growth in the tech sector and beyond. “We are identifying evidence-based strategies to enhance diversity and retention in Canada’s tech workforce,” she explains.
“Our goal is to develop frameworks and training programs that help companies cultivate inclusive cultures and a sense of belonging.” Â
Lifting our communities
The Faculty of Management’s outreach programs provide communities and organizations with access to expertise that may not otherwise be available to them so that they can tackle their biggest challenges.Ěý
Campaign support will make it possible for us to introduce more programs to strengthen these ties and develop solutions that benefit communities across Canada and around the world. We will launch the New Possibilities Career Accelerator Program, a suite of affordable, focused certificate programs, to help professionals expand their skills so that they can change or advance in their careers.
We will also use campaign funding to launch new social innovation experiences. These initiatives will give small businesses, not-for-profits, and the public sector access to expertise from our faculty, partners, and students. That will empower them to better serve our communities, while giving our students’ career aspirations a vital boost through hands-on experience.Ěý  Â
