Meet the inaugural MScB Class

This year, the Rowe School of Business celebratedÌýthe first graduates of our Master of Science in Business program, a research-orientedÌýthesis program thatÌýwas introduced in 2019.

Malti Puri

About me:Ìý I landed in Canada as an international student to pursue my higher studies at pilipiliÂþ»­. I am from India and have doneÌýM.TechÌý&ÌýB.TechÌýin Computer Science & Engineering back in my home country.Ìý

¹ó²¹±¹´Ç³Ü°ù¾±³Ù±ðÌý³¾±ð³¾´Ç°ù²â:ÌýReceivingÌýa scholarship in the first term for my outstanding academic performanceÌýandÌýpilipiliÂþ»­fully defendingÌýmy thesis in the last term.ÌýÌý

Yue Li (Scott)Ìý

About me:ÌýI came to Canada in 2013Ìýfrom my hometown of Shenzhen, China.ÌýFor my undergrad degrees, I did my Bachelor of Hospitality & Tourism Management and Bachelor of Business Administration at Cape Breton University.

My research:ÌýI conducted my research to understand how customers reacted to online games that transitioned fromÌýÌý

What’s next:ÌýI had a lot of fun and received a lotÌýof one-on-one training from myÌýsupervisorÌýduring my time inÌýtheÌýMScBÌýProgram.ÌýThe research I chose was extremely interesting to me.ÌýI am still figuring out what my next stepsÌýwillÌýbe.

Advice for newÌýMScBÌýstudents: Our program is onlyÌýfourÌýsemesters long, which meansÌýthatÌýthe firstÌýtwoÌýsemesters are critical. Try to work hard and make decisions on your thesis research topic options during the firstÌýtwoÌýsemesters and work from there. It gives you more time to work on the topics and more flexibility towards the end.Ìý

YujiaÌýXue

About me: I am from China. Math and statistics were my undergraduate degree majors. During the MScB program, I chose to focus on finance.

What’s next:ÌýWhileÌýI look for a job, I am working with my advisor,ÌýOumar Sy,Ìýto try to publish some papers.ÌýÌýI will takeÌýadvice fromÌýhim andÌýstart my Ph.D. degree within the next few years.

My thesis:Ìý

Advice for newÌýMScBÌýstudents:ÌýStart your thesis as early as you can. Research is not easy.ÌýDecide onÌýyour topic in the first semester. Then, start to talk to the professor if you are interested in any topic.ÌýOnce you have your topic and research proposal ready, you can collect the data and clean them. This step may takeÌýa longÌýtime dependingÌýon how large your database is.ÌýÌý

For the writing, keep in touch with your prof at least once a week. You will learn lots of skills from them.
