Rowe students win big at ICBC

Posted by Rowe School of Business on January 8, 2014 in Students

Rowe School of Business Bachelor of Commerce Co-op students Andrew Quinlan and Amani Abouchahine emerged victorious in the Marketing category at the 36th Annual Inter-Collegiate Business Competition hosted by Queen’s University.

Established in 1979, ICBC is Canada’s oldest and one of the most prestigious competitions. To be accepted to compete, students must first complete a rigorous preliminary round, which consists of a detailed case analysis. Successful students then travel to Kingston, Ontario, to compete head to head with peers from as far away as Thailand and Hong Kong. Students are given 5.5 hours to analyze and prepare a presentation for a panel of top-tier judges.

Case competitions are an increasingly important aspect of business education, as they allow students to put their skills to the test solving a simulated business problem with complex issues. Andrew and Amani’s participation in the event was sponsored by the Own the Podium initiative, which is funded by the Rowe Gift Fund. Dalhousie’s Commerce students are now working hard to prepare for JDCC taking place at the University of Guelph at the end of January.
