Caring for patients in the Za'atari refugee camp in Jordan
In November 2015, Dalhousie Dentistry alumni Drs. Asile and Asraa El-Darahali travelled to the Za’atari refugee camp, located near the Jordan-Syrian border, to give back to the international community and to “share Haligonian hospitality”. They provided badly needed oral health care to hundreds of refugees as part of an outreach mission through the Syrian American Medical Society.
On Thursday, April 7, the El-Darahali sisters will deliver a presentation on their experience. “Helping Hands: Bringing oral health care to our local and global community” will focus on the lessons they learned along the way, and highlight the importance of giving back to one’s community, both at home and abroad.
“Helping Hands” will take place in the Sir Charles Tupper Medical Building (5850 College Street) in Theatre B from 6.00 to 7.00 PM, with a reception to follow. Admission is by donation (cash or cheque), with proceeds supporting the Halifax Dentistry Student Society for Refugees and the North End Community Health Dental Clinic Fund.
