On Thursday, January 10, 2013, the Faculty of Dentistry and the Nova Scotia Dental Association collaborated on Practice Management Information Night. More than 80 students turned out for the event, which was a great opportunity for them to learn more about what it is really like to be a practicing dentist.
Students broke into two groups where the alumni guest speakers ā Drs. Kirk Blanchard (DDSā97), Chris Mintern (DDSā03), Phil Mintern (DDSā99) and Lloyd Trerice (DDSā82) ā provided insight on various topics that are dealt with on a day-to-day basis in clinical practice. This allowed the students to have an open discussion with practicing clinicians and learn more about life after dental school.
"The skills that arenāt taught in the classroom play a big role in the daily routine of clinical practice," said Dr. Blanchard, head of the NSDA's Dental Student Working Group. "Itās important that the students take the time to address these topics before graduation and have a better understanding of the non-clinical aspect of this career."
Given the tremendous response on the part of the students, the Faculty of Dentistry and NSDA are hoping to offer additional sessions. For more information, please contactĀ alumni.dentistry@dal.ca.
