Tanzania
The Faculty of Agriculture partnered with projects to help reduce poverty in Tanzania. Education plays an essential role in strengthening Tanzania’s ability to address agricultural productivity. By partnering with local education centres, we assisted in providing quality education where most needed.
Mpanda
Mpanda is located in the central-west Rukwa region of Tanzania, 2-3 days travel to the closest city centre. The main crops grown include maize, paddy, sunflower, groundnuts and tobacco. Beekeeping, aquaculture, animal husbandry are also practiced.Â
The Mpanda Vocational Training Centre offers certificate programs in motor vehicle mechanics, agro mechanics, tailoring, welding and fabrication, masonry, bricklaying and carpentry. The training centre also provides both long and short course vocational training to youth and local farmers who primarily go on to work in the self-employment and small-scale business sectors.Â
Ilonga
Located in Kilosa, Ministry of Agriculture Training Institute (MATI) Ilonga offers a certificate in Agriculture and two diploma programs in Agriculture, Human Nutrition and Food Production. Graduates go on to work in both the public and private sectors. Short courses are also offered to local extension workers, farmers and community stakeholders on related topics. Â
