Just a couple of reminders for researchers as you begin to prepare for upcoming funding competitions. If you have any questions, please contact the Director of Research Security, Michael Sullivan, at michael.sullivan@dal.ca.
- The National Security Guidelines for Research Partnerships and the Policy on Sensitive Technology Research and Affiliations of Concern (STRAC) have been applicable for all Tri-Agency funding platforms since May 1, 2024. As well, all research funders in Canada (federal / provincial / third party) are following the federal government’s lead and are moving to implement similar policies to govern their funding opportunities. These frameworks may result in researchers filling out additional forms and attestations prior to submission. For example, the Policy on STRAC requires researchers that have a named role (for example, applicants, co-applicants, and collaborators) to submit an attestation form as part of the grant / funding application process for research projects advancing sensitive technology research areas. For assistance in completing the forms and to minimize administrative burden on your part, researchers are strongly encouraged to contact the Director of Research Security as early as feasible.
- On June 19, an Order Amending the Export Control List was published in the Canada Gazette. Mirroring changes recently enacted by other countries, this order brings new items under unilateral export controls, specifically items relating to quantum computing and semi-conductor manufacturing. If your research involves quantum computing, semi-conductor design, semi-conductor manufacturing, or additive manufacturing, you are strongly encouraged to contact the Director of Research Security.
