IDRC strives to nurture emerging researchers in Canada and in developing countries who will apply their research in innovative ways to solve development challenges.
The research awards program helps to build the capacity and careers of individuals by funding research, the development of complementary skills, and hands-on experience.
IDRC will offer research awards related to the following development areas or themes:
- Climate-resilient food systems (based in Nairobi)
- Democratic and inclusive governance (based in New Delhi)
- Education and science  
- Ethics in development research 
- Global Health
- Policy and evaluation, and 
- Sustainable inclusive economies.
All awards will be based in Ottawa except for the Climate-resilient Food Systems award which will be based in Nairobi, and the Democratic and Inclusive Governance Award based in New Delhi.
Successful awardees will join IDRC as research award recipients for 12 months from January to December 2025. Awardees are considered full-time non-union employees of IDRC. Successful recipients will receive hands-on experience in research and program management, monitoring, evaluation and learning, and the creation, dissemination, and use of knowledge from an international perspective.
Please note that ORS does not facilitate these awards.
