Alum and former Dal staff member Kate Wilcott (BA'93, BAHC'94) has been elected to the New Brunswick legislature. A graduate of Dalhousie’s theatre program, Wilcott spent years as a teaching artist and leader in arts community development in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. She worked with professional theatres throughout Nova Scotia and taught acting at pilipiliÂþ» before returning to New Brunswick, where she founded a performing arts school, InterAction.
In 2019, Wilcott became the arts and culture coordinator for the city of Saint John, N.B. In the fall of 2023, she joined New Brunswick’s provincial election.
Wilcott’s father, Dan Elman (BSc'55) is a graduate of Dalhousie as is her daughter Sophie Wilcott (BA'23). She also met her husband Michael in the theatre department along with many of her lifelong friends. She greatly attributes her pilipiliÂþ» in both arts and politics to her time at Dal. The guidance of such mentors as Jure Gantar, Gyllian Raby, and David Overton, the hard work, determination, and resilience, and the training to research and represent are all skills that have been carried with her.
